A Journey of Growth — Reflections from My Time at McGill

It's funny how life gets in the way of plans, isn't it? Three years ago, in my second year at McGill, I built this personal website with grand intentions of documenting my journey. Back then, I was just beginning to explore the world of web development outside of school. I had created this blog section, written a few posts, and promised myself that I'd keep posting — that I'd share my experiences as a student, an engineer, and a budding professional. But life had other plans. Looking back now, I realize how easy it is to get caught up in the whirlwind of opportunities, responsibilities, and commitments. Since that time, my McGill journey has been a rollercoaster ride — filled with internships, jobs, leadership roles, volunteering, and so much more. And while all of this is well-documented on my LinkedIn and portfolio website, I wish I had taken the time to write here, to reflect and cherish each chapter as it happened. When I first arrived at McGill, I wasn't as involved as I wanted to be. It felt like I was on the sidelines, watching everything happen from a distance. But something changed in my second year. I discovered a passion for getting involved — not just to build my resume, but to contribute meaningfully to the McGill community. And contribute I did. In the last three years, I’ve held 3 internships across different industries; worked 7 on-campus jobs; and taken on 14 leadership roles in clubs and organizations like ECSESS, EUS, TechFair, Code.Jam, and more. I also volunteered countless hours at events and initiatives. It’s fair to say I’ve been too involved. Maybe I was overcompensating for my quieter first year. But honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way. These experiences have taught me more than any textbook ever could. I’ve learned how to lead, communicate effectively, manage my time, and stay organized in the face of chaos. I’ve mastered the delicate balance of being a full-time student, working 20 hours per week, and dedicating another 20 hours to leadership and involvement. And somehow, in between all of that, I found time to continue building my skills as a full-stack web developer, taking on side projects, and participating in hackathons. Now, in my last semester at McGill, I find myself reflecting on everything I’ve accomplished — and how much I’ve grown. I came to McGill as a student looking for academic knowledge, but I’m leaving as so much more than that. I’m an engineer, a leader, a communicator, a mentor. I’ve built valuable relationships, created projects I’m proud of, and made an impact on the community around me. As I write this, I feel a mix of pride, gratitude, and nostalgia. It’s truly remarkable to look back at how far I’ve come, and it’s exciting to think about what the future holds. But this post isn’t just about me. It’s a reminder for anyone reading this — especially younger students just starting their own journeys — to cherish your time here. Get involved. Take chances. Say yes to opportunities that scare you. Document your growth, your challenges, your successes. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ve grown when you look back years later. And for me? This is my last semester at McGill, but it’s certainly not the end of my journey. It’s just the beginning. I’ll carry these lessons and experiences with me as I step into the next chapter of my life.
